In the New Republic, the Barbarians serve as the regime’s labor force and are herded by the thousands into underground workers’ settlements.

Ors, the son of a high-ranking official, is sent to the slums to prevent an uprising. While his brother, on the surface, climbs the political ladder, Ors discovers the life of the Barbarians underground and meets Anna, with whom he forms a bond despite himself. Ors gradually begins to question the foundations of the regime, eventually sparking a revolt that will bring to light the dark secret hidden behind his own story.
